Below are testimonials about Help for Hero's from two of our local ex-servicmen. "Help For Heroes has done a wonderful job in raising funds to help our servicemen and women who have been wounded during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. That money is spent in many different ways, all aimed at helping our wounded. Included in this is providing funds to other Service welfare organisations. SSAFA Forces Help, is the national charity dedicated to helping serving and ex-Service men, women and their families in time of need through a national, largely volunteer, network of caseworkers. SSAFA Forces Help has been looking after the welfare of our forces and their families for 125 years, and Help For Heroes, recognising the importance of this work, has donated £520,000 to SSAFA Forces Help. This is a very tangible example of how our Service welfare charities work together for the good of our armed forces. I have nothing but admiration for the work of Help For Heroes." Alex Buchan Group Captain RAF Vice President SSAFA Forces Help (Cumbria) The importance of Help for Heroes cannot be overemphasised at the
present time. The resilience and cheerful fortitude of those of our Armed Forces
who have lost limbs or suffered other terrible injuries in Afghanistan ,or
previously in Iraq is remarkable.
We are never given a total number of those injured
but we can assume that it will be far greater than those who have
lost their lives.
Much of the cost of care of those disabled and preparing them for
future life is raised through Help for Heroes. I know that the people of
Penrith can be relied on to be generous in their support.
